Welcome to Studio Milton

Studio Milton is the culmination of a desire to combine design with craftsmanship and a love for Western Australian native hardwoods. Specialising in bespoke furniture design and the thoughtful creation of modern pieces that will stand the test of time. Ultimately, furniture that is made for families, influenced by architecture, nature and the space in which it will reside.

For the past 20 years Paul has been designing and crafting bespoke pieces from his workshop on the family farm in the southwest of Western Australia. His varied and extensive portfolio is showcased in private, commercial and community buildings in Australia and overseas.

Paul developed a love of working with wood from a very young age - inspired by his Grandpa who had a shed full of wood and wood working tools. Fortunate to have his Grandparents living just around the corner he spent much of his childhood in his grandpa's shed, working with him on wood projects.

His official timber adventure began at the age of sixteen with a five year cabinet making apprenticeship. This led to studies at the Australian School of Fine Wood in Dwellingup, where he was mentored by some of Australia’s finest craftsmen, designers and lecturers. Paul quickly fell in love with the precision and craftsmanship required in furniture making and the unique challenge that every piece brought.

Studio Milton was established soon after he completed his studies. The hayshed on the family farm became the workshop and has had numerous extensions over the years to accommodate the growing business.

With a strong focus on sustainability, almost all the timber used comes from local wind fallen trees which Paul mills and seasons himself. He also looks to reuse and recycle production waste and minimise the footprint Studio Milton leaves behind.

The Custom Made Furniture Process

The thought of having a piece of furniture custom made to your specifications can seem like a daunting prospect but working with a good furniture maker, the process should be straight forward, easy and enjoyable. Most of my clients can visit in person but I have successfully worked with clients who are not able to come in, via email, phone and lots of images.

The Concept

The First Step is to get a good concept of your custom piece and some key elements of what you would like it to look like along with the sizes.

Design & Quote

Bring your inspiration and rough sizes of the piece to us or we can come to you for a site visit. From there we will do a rough sketch, go over different timber and/or colour samples and options. Once we have those details you'll receive a quote for the piece.

Finalising the Details

We finalise all the details of the piece like size, drawer/door layouts, styles of tops, handles etc... along with the timber type and finish. Once the quote is accepted and deposit paid we'll let you know an approximate delivery date.

Manufacture

Before making your piece we'll check that no amendments are required. During the manufacturing process you are welcome to come in and see your new piece being custom made.

Delivery

When the piece is finished we will contact you to arrange a time for delivery and/or installation.
